Style, Simple mode, and Square mode
The Format tab styles whatever you've selected (nodes, relationships, notes, or a note's link), or the whole model when nothing is selected. Two switches in the top bar change how the whole model is drawn: Simple mode and Square mode.
The Format tab
With nothing selected, the tab is titled Format all and sets the model style: the background color and the look of every visible node and relationship. Hidden ones keep their current look. With a selection, only the selected items change, and Reset to model style removes the styling you've given them.
- Colors: every color field has a swatch that opens the color picker, a hex code you can copy or type over (three or six digits, with or without the #), and a row of color dots for quick picks.
- Sizes: every size and width, text sizes included, has a slider and a field for typing an exact value. Radius goes from 10 to 250.
- Text sizes: Caption size (default 20), Label size (18), Type size (16), and Property size (14). There's no text color to set: toro4n switches text to black or white whenever its color would be hard to read on the background.
- Labels: a label looks the same on every node that has it, whatever other labels the node has. Pick one under Labels, such as
Company, and set the background, border color, and border width (2.5 by default) of its box: every node withCompanyshows the change. With nothing selected, All labels sets every label at once, and Label size applies to every label in the model. - Properties: the background, border color, and border width of the property box (white, black, and 2 by default), set separately for nodes and relationships.
- Line and Type for relationships: Line color, Line width, Arrow size, Dashed line, Type size, and Type background.
- Auto adjust: the checkbox next to Radius, on by default. Each node grows until its caption fits inside on at most two lines, and never shrinks below the default size. Drag the Radius slider to pick a size yourself; that turns Auto adjust off.
Dragging a slider or the color picker is one undo step, however far you drag.
Reset to default style, the last button under Format all, returns the model style to toro4n's defaults and gives every visible node, relationship, note, and link the default look, all in one undo step. It's handy after an import.
Copy format
Like the look of one node? Select it and click Copy format at the top of the Format tab, then select other nodes and click Paste format to give them the same look, in one undo step. It works the same way for relationships, notes, and a note's link, always between items of the same kind. Copy format appears when the items you've selected are all of one kind and share the same look.
Theme
toro4n always opens in light mode, even if your system is set to dark mode. Switch to dark mode with the theme button in the top bar, and your browser remembers the choice. In dark mode, a white or default light gray canvas shows as a darker gray, and any other background color shows as it is. Only the display changes: the model, the Background color field, and exports keep the actual color.
Simple mode
Use it for demos and first sketches. With Simple mode on, each node shows only its caption and each relationship only its type, with no labels, properties, or notes. A node without a caption shows its labels inside instead. The side panel is hidden to give the canvas the full width, so Add node moves to the top bar. A blue SIMPLE MODE banner at the top of the canvas shows that the mode is on. Double-click a node to edit its caption, or a relationship to edit its type.
Simple mode changes only what you see: it isn't saved in the model, and it doesn't change what JSON and Cypher exports contain. While it's on, SVG and PNG exports show the simplified view.
Square mode
With Square mode on, every node is a card instead of a circle: a bold row of labels at the top, the caption in a band in the node's fill color, and the properties below it in three columns. Properties stay visible even when the Properties layer is hidden. The node settings that only circles use drop out of the Format tab: Radius, Auto adjust, the label background and border, and the node's property border. Square mode applies to the whole model and is saved with it. Simple mode always uses circles.
